Wayne State University building on fire in midtown Detroit

 

The Maccabees Building, 5057 Woodward Ave., in midtown Detroit is on fire on Wednesday, April 1.

According to a Wayne State University alert at 1:24 p.m., the building has been evacuated. The alert asks people to avoid the area.

The 14-story building is one of the tallest on Wayne State's campus and houses professor offices.

The building opened in 1927 and was designed by famous architect Albert Kahn, according to historicdetroit.org.

A spokesperson for Wayne State University did not immediately have more information about the fire. The Detroit Fire Department did not immediately respond to request for comment.
